New VOIP players continue to join the marketplace.
The internet telephony, or VOIP, world grows more crowded every day. This week two more players enter the fray, Jajah (a startup with backing from Sequoia) and well known portal Lycos. They join Skype, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, and a host of smaller players in this rapidly growing space. Not to be left out, Sprint has become the first of the cellular providers to roll out a large scale location based service that will function on approximately 70% of the handsets on its network. The goal is for the handset to identify its physical location on the network, and then recieve tailored responses to inquiries based on that physical location - like where is the nearest bank/gas station/Italian restaurant...if the front end can be made to function quickly and easily, this would be a real value add to anyone in an unfamiliar part of town, or a new city.
