The
Jet Propulsion Laboratory at Cal Tech, sponsored by NASA and working with numerous other contributors, had an incendiary 4th of July when the Deep Impact probe struck comet Tempel 1 at 1:52 a.m. -- the probe was travelling at 23,000 mph at the moment of impact, which produced a brilliant flash of
light. An amazing bit of telemetry -- you can learn more at NASA's mission site
here.
