Anti-phishing legislation good; privacy better.

The U.S. Senate is considering legislation introduced by Pat Leahy of Vermont which would make phishing a federal crime. As "phishers" are truly the criminal elements of the internet world (and if your mother, like mine, is on the net you worry) it is heartening to see at least some effort at the national level to address these cyber-thugs. Phishing comes in many forms, as you can see here. Of course, if a criminal can get the necessary information to commit identity theft from other sources (like the bumbling credit bureau ChoicePoint), shouldn't our legislators consider some severe remedies for the purveyors of private data for profit as well?
