U.S. Department of Justice continues fishing...

This article reports that the DOJ has cast a far wider net than previously disclosed, and has served an additional 34 companies with subpoenas seeking information regarding internet use and related data in its effort to defend the 1996 Child Online Protection Act. The Act has already been found wanting by the Supreme Court twice, but the DOJ continues to expend resources in its defense. Another article details some of the goals of the DOJ, including efforts to show that available filtering software is inadequate for controlling content received through email and search engines.
